Only at the second baptism does the preacher guy ask what his new name will be, and this is when Booker decides to become Comstock. The real choice is whether or not to return for the second baptism.

The first baptism occurs with the large circle of people, and Booker can choose to either accept or decline the baptism, but either way, he knows that water isn't going to wash away his sins, and so he remains Booker DeWitt. Personally, I subscribe to the idea that there are two separate baptisms. What do you think? Do you have any of your own theories? Perhaps this theory serves as wish fulfillment, but I just couldn't reconcile the absence of the pendant in the final scene with our favorite sidekick's implied annihilation. So what does this mean? I, personally, believe that the pendant may have some sort of hidden property that allows our Elizabeth to exist as a god-like being independent of time and space, much like the Luteces. This means that barring the existence of multiple sets of Luteces within the multiverse, our Elizabeth is the only version who (a) received a pendant, and (b) fully realized her powers. Yes, the Luteces gave that pendant to 122 other Elizabeths, but it is stated that in each of those realities, Booker fails to rescue Elizabeth, and Elizabeth isn't able to fully realize her powers. However, in order to determine how she could possibly not be gone, we must first ask the question: what makes our Elizabeth different from every other infinite iteration of Elizabeth, or at the very least, different from the iterations of Elizabeth we see in the final drowning scene? The obvious answer is the bird/cage pendant given her by the Luteces. This desperately begs the question, if the developers are showing all these Elizabeths disappearing, why the hell is our Elizabeth nowhere to be found? What reason could they possibly have for being implicit in our Elizabeth's erasure, rather than explicit? For the sake of discussion, I am precluding the possibility of designer error, and assuming this was intentional, as the pendant had been present in every scene with Elizabeth theretofore.ĭuring the 2nd baptism, I think it can safely be assumed that all of the Comstock timelines are erased, and as a result, every iteration of Elizabeth is essentially deleted from existence, as shown in the final shot before the credits. I've seen this question asked a few times in a number of threads, and a couple of posts, but I haven't really seen any well-organized theories as to why our Elizabeth isn't present at the drowning. How do I extract sounds/textures/models from the game?Īs many of you now have pointed out, none of the Elizabeths present at the drowning are wearing the bird/cage pendant that "our" Elizabeth is given by the Luteces.
